More info
In a village cradled between a river and the edge of an old forest, there lived a boy named Tendai, the seventh son of the village herbalist. He was quiet and strange even as a small child, the kind of boy who talked to birds and sat alone at the forest's edge at dusk, as though waiting for something. The elders said he'd been born with his eyes already open, staring straight at his mother instead of crying.
